Time is the claim
Anesthesia payment depends on documented start and stop times. A rounding habit or missing time costs money on every case.
Anesthesia is billed by time and by who directed the case, rules few billing systems get right. XEHR keeps time, roles and procedures accurate.

Z01.818 Pre-procedural examination
Anesthesia payment depends on documented start and stop times. A rounding habit or missing time costs money on every case.
Personally performed, medically directed and supervised cases are billed differently, and the provider ratio matters.
Interventional pain procedures often need prior authorization and documented conservative care.
Anesthesiologists work in hospital operating rooms, surgery centers, labor and delivery, endoscopy suites and office-based procedure rooms, often directing nurse anesthetists across several rooms at once. Anesthesia is billed on the professional claim in a way no other service is: base units for the procedure, time units for the minutes of care and modifiers for who provided it. Pain procedures and post-operative blocks add separately billed services.

Examples only. The provider chooses the code that matches the documented diagnosis, and XEHR checks it against the note and the payer's rules before the claim goes out.
The pre-anesthesia evaluation records history, airway and physical status, which feed the claim.
Anesthesia start and stop times are recorded, with any gaps when the anesthesiologist left the patient.
When directing nurse anesthetists, each required step of medical direction is documented per case.
Base units, time units, physical status and the right provider modifiers go on one checked claim.
